E-bikes and e-scooters are an increasingly popular way to get around. However, if their batteries are damaged or not charged correctly, they can become a serious fire risk.
Most e-bikes and e-scooters are powered by lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat, catch fire, or even explode if not looked after properly. Fire services across the UK, including the London Fire Brigade, have seen a significant rise in battery-related fires, with firefighters called to over 130 e-bike and e-scooter fires in London in 2024 alone.
