Rents in the UK have hit record highs. In London, the average monthly rent is now £2,695, Rightmove reports. Energy bills remain 50% higher than pre-pandemic levels, pushing more households into fuel poverty. Food prices have risen by 25% since 2021, leaving many families struggling to afford essentials.
With wages not keeping pace with inflation, more people are being pushed into emergency housing, which is often overcrowded and unsuitable, impacting physical and mental health of the residents. Over 150,000 children are currently places in temporary housing, often moving frequently and not being able to sustain local networks.
Yet, affordable housing supply isn't growing fast enough. We need urgent investment in long-term, sustainable housing solutions - not just quick fixes. We need stronger policies, more funding, and more awareness to tackle this crisis.
